Training & Sailing instruction

The first thing all beginners need to realize, when they approach sailing, is the richness of the world they are about to enter.  It is a world of knowledge, experience,  awareness, techniques, wisdom, stories and tales which will unveil itself slowly, over a long period, often one’s whole life. It is a world of patience and humbleness, full of passionate people.

We offer 3 levels of training:

• Basic sailing course
• Advanced sailing course
• Captain training

Basic sailing course

Do you need to learn the art of sailing from the very beginning? Do you wish to enter a new world and start understanding its basic rules? Would you like to meet other people who love the sea, adventure and sailing like you do?

If so, this is the course for you.

This course is for beginners, who are approaching sailing for the first time, but also for self-taught sailors wishing to refresh and perfect their techniques.  For first timers, or second timers…. 

Our teaching style is informal and friendly, though always professional.  You will learn while having a good time and making new friends.

The course includes three week-ends spent on board, plus one theory session, in La Spezia (Porto Lotti).  Our sailing instructor will put his years of experience at your service with clear and simple explanations, luring everybody into the magical and world of water and wind.

Price: 550 € per person (3 pp min.), 500 € per person (4 to 7 pp)

Advanced sailing course

Would you like to perfect your sailing techniques, maybe hoping to obtain a skipper licence?  Have you studied theory and route planning in detail, but feel you need more practice on board? Or else, maybe you already have a licence but feel insecure about sailing as captain with your family and friends…

If so, this is the course for you.

Most sailing classes aimed at getting a sailing licence only include 3-4 sessions of hand-on sailing on board, certainly not enough to give novices the technical knowledge and experience they need to sail a boat as captains.

You need to learn a few indispensable actions, which will soon become automatic,  and to be guided by an instructor who will show you the right way (often, the only way) to do things on board.  Our course will enable you to face your skipper test with ease of mind, but also to start sailing independently, without the need to always look for other, more experienced sailors to show you the way.

You will spend three weekends sailing along the coast and further out at sea, with an expert Captain at your side full time, who will train you to focus your attention and increase your awareness and will help you perfect and complete your technical knowledge.  You will try your hand at navigating under sail and with the help of the engine, will learn men-over-board rescuing techniques and work at fine-tuning your sailing regulations to optimize speed and boat performance.

The price is 600 € per person with a minimum of 4 people on board.

Captain course

This is our most challenging and complex course. 

May be you already know a lot about sailing, and you got your sailing licence a while back. But you are still afraid to take full responsibility on board, and you feel nervous when the wind starts getting just a bit too strong, or when you have to bring your boat to mooring in the harbour.  We know perfectly well that sailing is one thing, but being the Captain on a boat is another story altogether.  The way to learn is one and only one: practice and more practice, sailing a lot, in many different weather conditions. 

Three week-ends of full time sailing, in the "Sound of Poets", the Gulf of La Spezia, on the eastern coast of Liguria. You will practice in coastal waters and in the harbour, repeating steering and mooring manoeuvres over and over until you do them with ease. You will be at the helm at night, sail without help from your crew, and learn the many rules and tricks that a Captain must know to sail safely, with a cooperating crew and also having fun.  You will be given written materials summarizing the most important points of our classes.

A course that we could define: "Everything you always wanted to know about sailing but you never dared to ask".

This course usually takes place during winter months, allowing you to experience demanding weather conditions (strong winds, rough seas, rain...) and to learn how to cope with them.

Price: 900 € per person with a minimum of 4 people on board.
